World Sepsis Day 2019 will be the biggest yet, with countless events in all parts of the world. There will be events for medical professionals, sport activities, photo exhibitions, pink picnics, gala events, dinners, public events such as open days in hospitals and healthcare facilities, and of course online events such as the ‘2nd World Sepsis Congress‘, and campaigns on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Periscope, Snapchat, Peach and many more social networks. World Sepsis Day is held annually on 13 September and is an initiative of the Global Sepsis Alliance. Each year events are held worldwide to raise awareness about sepsis. Sepsis claims eleven million lives globally each year with more than 8500 of those in Australia.

This year’s World Patient Safety Day theme, ‛Health worker safety: A priority for patient safety’, highlights the unique challenges facing healthcare workers across the world. Global Handwashing Day is October 15! Every year, Global Handwashing Day serves as a platform to raise global awareness on the importance of handwashing with soap. This year’s Global Handwashing Day theme is Hand Hygiene for All, calling for all of society to achieve universal hand hygiene now and for the future.

The Australia and New Zealand Paediatric Infectious Diseases Group (ANZPID) Clinical Meeting will be virtual this year.

The Australasian Society for Infectious Disease (ASID) New Zealand Annual Meeting 2020 will be held on Friday, 30 October. Initially planned to be held at the University of Auckland, it is now scheduled to be held as a virtual meeting. Connecting to the conference via local hubs on the Friday, 30 October is encouraged.
