SUMMARY:Infection Prevention Seminar Series (No. 2) for Residential Care
DESCRIPTION:This seminar is intended for residential care staff who assume the role and responsibility for infection prevention and control in their facility including resident infection surveillance and/or coordinating outbreaks of infection.  Useful case scenarios\, resources and references will be provided to assist with developing\, implementing and evaluating a surveillance program and investigating and managing outbreaks. \nPART 1 – THE NUTS AND BOLTS OF SURVEILLANCE \nLearning Outcomes: \n\nDefine outcome and process surveillance activities\nDescribe the surveillance process\nIdentify industry accepted infection definitions and methodology\nDevelop innovative solutions to surveillance\n\nPART 2 – OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION AND MANAGEMENT \nLearning Outcomes: \n\nIdentify the common infectious diseases/infestations that cause outbreaks of infection\nDescribe the key steps in the outbreak investigation process\nIdentify strategies and resources required to manage outbreaks\nDemonstrate ability to manage an outbreak of infection in the residential care setting\n\nThe seminar will be presented by well known Infection Prevention Consultant Megan Reilly.  Megan is a registered general nurse with a Certificate in Infection Control obtained from Fremantle Hospital (1988).  She obtained her Bachelor of Nursing at Edith Cowan University in 1999 and Masters in Health Science (Infection Control) at Griffith University in 2002 with first class honors.  In addition\, Megan has a Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training\, Immunisation Competency Certificate and is a credentialed infection control professional (CICP). \nMegan has 25 years experience working in the area of infection prevention and control in the acute\, community\, residential and office-based practice health care setting.  Her business Hands-On Infection Control provides a variety of infection prevention consultancy\, education and immunisation services to corporate\, health and human service organisations in metropolitan\, rural and remote Australia. \nMegan enjoys sharing her passion for infection prevention and control in a meaningful and entertaining way to her audience.
